How did a young man born in Czechoslovakia before World War II create a martial art known worldwide and used in films as well as by the police in many countries? Imi Lichtenfeld fought from a young age against pogroms, creating an interfaith militia in Bratislava; against death, his own and that of others, as the refugee boat he was on sank; alongside the Haganah and the British in Palestine during World War II. This was only the beginning of the romantic journey that led him to found his own self-defense method, Krav Maga, which advocates the use of simple movements and reflexes to respond to an attack. Philippe Abitbol, a history enthusiast, and Richard Douieb, commissioned by Imi Lichtenfeld himself to spread Krav Maga in Europe, also an "exclusive close combat trainer" within the GIGN from 1993 to 2005, have joined forces to pay tribute to the extraordinary personality of this key figure in martial arts, by recounting his career where reality mixes with legend.
